Catalonia: A Hub for AI and Digital Innovation

Catalonia is consolidating its position as one of Europe’s leading hubs for artificial intelligence and digital technologies. The region brings together over 450 AI companies, employs over 14.000 professionals, and attracted €289 million in foreign investment in 2023. It also ranks among the top three EU regions in AI funding and hosts 29 research centers, among them the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS), the Centre de Visió per Computador (CVC) and the Institut de Robòtica i Informàtica Industria (IRI-UPC-CSIC).

Futhermore, the Government of Catalonia has launched the Catalonia AI 2030 Strategy, a 1 billion euro plan with 88 actions aimed at building sovereign digital infrastructures, fostering talent and research excellence, accelerating AI adoption in businesses and public services, and ensuring ethical and transparent governance in AI.

The Goverment of Catalonia is also commited to work towards a responsible AI, promoting global initiatives such as the Manifesto for Advancing Trustworthy AI.

Over 40 companies and research centres from Catalonia’s vibrant tech ecosystem were showcased in the Catalonia Pavilion at MWC26 Barcelona. These organisations delivered cutting-edge solutions across strategic sectors such as Health, Manufacturing, Mobility, Space and Retail.
