We've renamed four of our key stages at MWC Barcelona 2025 to celebrate the remarkable work done by some of our greatest visionaries in science and technology.
Focusing on our conference stages — our Main Stage remains unchanged as the place to hear keynote speeches — these new names honour individuals whose ground-breaking creativity has shaped the future of our connected world. Here’s why we chose these inspiring figures and the lasting impact they’ve made.
Marconi Stage
Named after Guglielmo Marconi, the Marconi Stage embodies the spirit of connectivity. Known as the father of wireless communication, Marconi’s work laid the foundation for today’s global communication networks.
The Marconi Stage will feature our themes of 5G Inside and Connect X, exploring how 5G rollouts and IoT advancements drive the evolution of interconnected technologies across industries.
Turing Stage
The Turing Stage acknowledges the analytical insight of Alan Turing, the visionary who cracked codes and laid the groundwork for artificial intelligence. Turing’s contributions to computing theory and AI resonate deeply with the themes showcased here: AI+ and Enterprise Re-invented.
This stage will focus on advancements in AI, cybersecurity, and data ethics, paying homage to Turing’s vision of a world transformed by intelligent machines. Join us here for sessions that explore the next frontiers of AI and computing, inspired by Turing’s relentless pursuit of knowledge.
Johnson Stage
Named after Katherine Johnson, a pioneer in mathematics and space exploration, the Johnson Stage represents pushing boundaries and breakthrough ideas. Johnson’s calculations were instrumental to some of NASA’s greatest achievements, making her an ideal figure to represent Game Changers and Our Digital DNA themes.
This stage will highlight the role of data science, space technology and precision thinking. Sessions will build on Johnson’s legacy of accuracy and innovation, exploring how data-driven insights can unlock new potential in our world.
Lamarr Stage
Named after Hedy Lamarr, actress and inventor, the Lamarr Stage honours the creative spirit that drives technological discovery. Lamarr co-invented a frequency-hopping technology that laid the groundwork for modern wireless communication, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
The Lamarr Stage is the home for the FC Barcelona’s Sports Tomorrow Congress. It will also focus on creative technologies while exploring intersections between digital media, entertainment and communications. In celebration of Lamarr’s ingenuity, this stage will inspire audiences to think outside the box and push the boundaries of what’s possible.
Why these visionaries matter
At MWC Barcelona 2025, these new stage names acknowledge the importance of these pioneers to our industry, the profound impact they’ve had and how they continue to inspire the next generation of innovators. Each stage embodies a unique aspect of technological advancement—from connectivity and computation to precision and creativity.
As we take our place on these stages, we celebrate the creative legacy that has brought us to this point and continues to push us onwards.
