Frederic Bertrand

Mahindra Racing, Chief Executive Officer & Team Principal

Speaker Bio

Known as “Fred” within the team, Bertrand has enjoyed an extensive career in both the automotive and motorsport industries over the past three decades in a range of roles.

After a decade spent at Renault Sport in the purchasing, business development and events departments, Bertrand moved on to Peugeot Sport and Citroen for a two-year stint as General Manager for Customer Racing Activities, with oversight over both manufacturers’ involvement with customer racing programmes and championships.

It is perhaps for his decade at the FIA – motorsport’sgoverning body – that Bertrand is best-known. After initially joining as Head of the Sporting Department, Bertrand managed the strategy and development of the FIA’s categories and championships, including the single-seater pathway, touring cars, truck racing and more.

Quickly rising to become the organisation’s Director for Circuit Championships, Bertrand’s role evolved over the
following five years to bring him closer to an emerging championship he’d helped develop in its infancy – Formula E.

In 2019, he accepted the position of Director for Formula E and Innovative Sport Projects, with oversight for the all-electric series, as well as a crucial role in developing the governing body’s e-sports programmes. Bertrand was alsoinstrumental in the creation and development of the FIA Motorsport Games, an Olympic-style international event which recently celebrated it’s third edition in Valencia, Spain.

Fred’s latest career challenge began in November 2022, when he joined Mahindra Racing, the last of Formula E’s remaining founding teams, as CEO and Team Principal.
