Solly Malatsi serves as South Africa’s Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, leading efforts to expand digital access, lower data costs, and drive digital innovation. His work focuses on ensuring that affordable internet, digital skills, and technology-driven opportunities reach all South Africans, fostering economic growth and inclusion.


Born on 22 December 1985 in Ga-Dikgale, Limpopo, Malatsi holds a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Limpopo and an Honours Degree in Political Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand. With a strong foundation in public administration and policy development, he has dedicated his career to advancing transparent governance and modernizing South Africa ’ s digital landscape.


As Minister, Malatsi has prioritized reducing data costs, expanding high-speed connectivity, and strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure. He is committed to ensuring that digital technologies are not just widely available but also productively used to enhance education, economic participation, and government services. Central to his approach is fostering partnerships between government, industry, and civil society to create a thriving digital economy.


A strong advocate for accountability and responsible governance, he is focused on policies that bridge the digital divide and ensure that technological advancements benefit all citizens, particularly underserved communities.
