Professor Qammer H. Abbasi (SMIEEE, FRET, FRSA, FEAI, FIET) is the Founder of RFIoT and a Professor of Applied Electromagnetics & Sensing at the University of Glasgow’s James Watt School of Engineering. A globally recognized leader in communication, sensing, and imaging technologies, he has secured a grant portfolio exceeding £13M and authored over 500 international technical publications, including papers in the Nature portfolio, 11 books, and numerous conference papers. Prof. Abbasi has received prestigious accolades such as the UK Exceptional Talent endorsement by the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Sensor 2021 Young Scientist Award, and a University-level Teaching Excellence Award.
He serves as the Director of the Communication, Sensing, and Imaging (CSI) Hub and is a Policy Advisor for the UK Government’s Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology. An IEEE Senior Member and Distinguished Lecturer (2024-26), Prof. Abbasi chairs the IEEE APS/MTT UK, Ireland, and Scotland Joint Chapter and holds leadership roles in IEEE Young Professional committees and IET networks. His groundbreaking work has been featured in global media outlets, including BBC News, Scotland TV, and Fierce Wireless.
