Speaker Bio
George Kamiya is the Sernior Manager of Climate Action at the GSMA, providing strategic advice and analysis on energy, climate, and circular economy to support the mobile industry's transition to net zero by 2050. He is the lead author of “Rethinking Mobile Phones: the business case for circularity” and the GSMA’s annual Mobile Net Zero report.
Prior to joining the GSMA in 2023, he worked for the International Energy Agency (IEA/OECD) for eight years, leading the agency’s modelling and analysis on digitalisation (including data centre energy use), critical minerals, and tracking clean energy progress. He has published several widely-cited studies on the environmental impacts of digital services and infrastructure including AI, and serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Industrial Ecology’s Special Issue on Environmental Impacts of the Digital Economy.
George as a Masters in Resource Management (Energy and Transport) and has also worked on environmental management and policy at the Government of Canada and the Vancouver Airport Authority.
