Speaker Bio
Sarah is a Senior Associate in our Technology and Media team, with over 10 years’ experience as a commercial intellectual property (IP) and technology specialist.
Before joining CMS in 2022, she spent over five years at an international law firm and two years at a boutique IP law firm advising on IP, technology and media matters, having trained with a Magic Circle law firm. Sarah graduated from the University of Nottingham with a first class Master’s degree in Mathematics and obtained a distinction in the Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law and Practice from the University of Oxford.
Sarah supports clients across a variety of industries and sectors, including in the technology and media sectors. She advises on strategic and technical IP issues, and has a broad range of experience in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements with an IP, technology or media focus.
Sarah has a particular interest in copyright, including the interaction between copyright and artificial intelligence (AI). She has been following the UK and EU’s approach to AI for a number of years, including the UK ‘saga’ around the use of copyright works for training AI and the proposed introduction of a new copyright exception. As a member of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), an international organisation promoting the development of IP laws, she has previously contributed to the UK national group’s response to questions on the protection of AI-generated works and on the harmonisation of moral rights, and is currently contributing to the response to this year’s question on AI and copyright.
